In a significant stride towards fostering digital inclusion and environmental awareness, HMD has teamed up with the Shikhar Dhawan Foundation for a pioneering initiative. The collaboration aims to bridge the knowledge gaps for underprivileged youth in the Delhi NCR region by providing them with smart devices, thereby addressing the challenges of affordability and accessibility in advancing e-learning opportunities in India.
The multifaceted initiative goes beyond device distribution. It includes a plantation drive and raising awareness about e-waste and sustainability, with a special focus on UPI payments among underprivileged communities. The inaugural distribution event took place at NeeV – A Learning Centre in Village Nangli Umarpur, Golf Course Extension, Gurugram. Key leaders from both organizations, including Mr. Ravi Kunwar (VP, India & APAC, HMD Global), were present during this momentous occasion.
The primary goal of the collaboration is to promote awareness among school children at NeeV about e-waste management. Simultaneously, HMD kick-started a tree plantation campaign at the school, further emphasizing their commitment to sustainability.
In a statement during the event, Mr. Ravi Kunwar highlighted the seamless alignment of this initiative with HMD’s commitment to ensuring universal access to affordable, durable, and eco-conscious technology. The collaboration with the Shikhar Dhawan Foundation, a partner sharing similar values, serves as a manifesto for their dedication to reducing e-waste while empowering individuals with the right technology.
Mr. Amitesh Shah, CEO of DA-ONE (a Shikhar Dhawan initiative), emphasized the indispensability of technology access for lifelong learning. The joint initiative aims to empower students, enabling them to make significant contributions to their communities and reshape the future with a wealth of resources at their disposal.
Dr. Kanika Dewan, Director of Impact and Strategy at the Shikhar Dhawan Foundation, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative aimed at enhancing e-learning accessibility in India. By providing essential tools to promising young minds, the collaboration is making a substantial investment in the future, working towards ensuring that every student has access to quality education.
The joint initiative of Shikhar Dhawan Foundation and HMD is set to bridge the digital divide by providing smart devices to schools teaching students from underserved sections in the NCR Region. As a commitment to sustainability, HMD supported the school’s eco-friendly initiatives by establishing an e-waste collection bin and creating the HMD Sustainability Corner within the school grounds.
