Driving Independence: How ‘Livelihood on Wheels’ is Redefining Self-Reliance

“When access is created, self-reliance follows.”

At the Shikhar Dhawan Foundation, this principle is the driving force behind our efforts to create an inclusive and empowered society. We believe that true independence doesn’t come from charity, but from opportunity. That is exactly what the Livelihood on Wheels program is designed to deliver.

By supporting people with disabilities in pursuing meaningful livelihoods, we are helping individuals build futures shaped not by their limitations, but by their potential.

Beyond Access: Building Meaningful Livelihoods

For people with disabilities, finding accessible and dignified work can often be a steep uphill battle. The Livelihood on Wheels program seeks to level that playing field. Our goal is to provide the necessary support, tools, and platforms so that differently-abled individuals can step into the workforce with confidence.

When we invest in livelihoods, we create a powerful ripple effect of independence, self-worth, and economic stability.

Kalpana’s Journey: Blazing a Trail in Rajasthan

There is no better testament to the power of this program than the story of one of our proudest beneficiaries: Kalpana.

With the support of the Livelihood on Wheels initiative, Kalpana has broken significant barriers to become Rajasthan’s first female rider with a disability for Zomato.

Kalpana isn’t just delivering food; she is delivering a powerful message. Every time she gets on the road, she is building her own path. In doing so, she is actively dismantling societal stigmas and proving that determination, when met with the right opportunity, can achieve incredible things.

Inspiring a Generation of Women

Kalpana’s milestone is a victory for her, but it is also a beacon of hope for countless others. Her journey is inspiring other women with disabilities to envision a life where they can pursue work with absolute confidence and dignity. She is showing the world that having a disability does not mean a person cannot take the wheel and drive their own future forward.

At the Shikhar Dhawan Foundation, we are deeply honored to play a part in stories like Kalpana’s. As we continue to expand the Livelihood on Wheels program, we remain committed to creating more avenues for independence, one individual at a time.
